Porsche, as a premium performance sports car manufacturer, uses clutch-type Limited slip differentials (LSD) in all models. And as every clutch type LSD, it requires maintenance in form of replacement friction plates when they wear out.
The problem occurs when your differential starts to slip, in other words when it is a time for rebuild. You, as every responsible owner, go to official dealership, but they are not able to help you because Porsche doesn't supply replacement friction plates. As a matter of fact, they don't offer LSD unit as a spare part at all. They can only offer you to replace whole gearbox which is tremendously expensive. Especially if you have PDK transmission.
And this is not just a theory. I described the real situation of very dear friend of mine, who is the owner of Cayman T (718). He is the track addict, so after 70 thousand kilometers since new, he noticed that Limited slip differential started to slip. Car was very unstable during cornering and rear end felt twitchy with tendency to oversteer easily. He even noticed this on telemetry as a explosive TPS jumps at the corner exits without acceleration exchanges.
He went to dealership and came back with the offer to change complete PDK tranny for 20 000 EUR including labor. Which is fine if something was broken in the transmission. But he only needed LSD unit to be serviced.
Therefore we decided to produce Friction plate replacement sets for all Porsche models: Boxster, Cayman, Carrera, even GT3 & GT2 models. We also have LSD clutch packs for traditional models such as 964, 928, 944 and such.
After we replaced worn factory plates, the car went back to it's normal operation. Despite first results, we decided to take it out to the track to compare performance of RacingDiffs LSD clutch plates and oem discs. And the test results were very surprising! My friend drove his personal best instantly and set the lap time only 2 seconds slower than 991 GT3 RS.
Therefore, if you have problem with differential slipping, it is not the end of the world. Just find trusted mechanic to do the labor and order parts online from our web shop.
Also, if you have any question regarding differentials, please feel free to send us an emailand we will respond as soon as possible.
